What is POP3 and IMAP? which one should I use?
From SXL Wiki
1 Whats the different?
POP3 and IMAP are 2 different methods to access emails. Each has advantages and disadvantages.
1.1 IMAP
Emails are stored on the server
- You have to manually remove some emails to free up server space (or pay more to get more space).
Messages are "Synchronized" across multiple devices
- If you deleted or replied an email on your phone, the email is also deleted or replied on your computer.
2 POP3
Emails are stored on your computer
- In another word, no worry about server space.
Emails are "Not Synchronized" between multiple devices
- For example, if you deleted a junk mail on your computer, the same junk mail is still on your phone.
3 Should I use IMAP or POP3?
- If you use both Phone and Computer to access your email, use IMAP.
- If you only use your office computer to access your email, use POP3.
